Peter, Mhairi, Iona & Aedan Gibson: 40 Memories from Around the World with the Gibsons

In the beginning, there was…Xiamen, China in 1997
1. Maria saves Mhairi from glitzy expat ladies who "do" lunch, the rest is history!
2. Weekly dinner Wang Wang's and Maria ordering 2 portions of cabbage!! Wonder what the apartment smelled like in the evening??
3. Chef Benton – following the instruction on the brownie packet to the letter, if the recipe says beat the mixture 50 times, then it has to be 50; 49 times will definitely not do and could potentially make the brownies fit for the garbage!!
4. Steve's Top 10 CD's which to this day I do not know how he gets them in order of number of times he played them.
5. Making dinner, Chez Gibson's – boys in the kitchen making chili, girls in the bathroom making salad!
6. Marco Polo brunch – Waiter, waiter, there's a hair in my soup…
7. Tom, interesting style of writing- NOT!
8. Steve's early encounter in rehearsing for parenthood was his development of a fast running technique with Iona to keep her quiet.
9. Steve teaching Peter the basics in American football at Xia Da
10. Weekend in Dong Shang Island with an elevator that stopped at every floor, while Steve took the stairs ……………… I wonder????
11. And the game of charades on movie titles. Maria's Pulp Fiction & Mhairi's Gorilla's in the Mist.
12. Steve and Peter's rendition of Moondance.
13. Steve sock rotation system, that I haven't mastered yet
14. Our introduction to e-mail and the Internet was from Steve until then we were faxing and writing letters.
Then a summer visit to the Isle of Lewis, Scotland in 2000
15. Peter bought all the Caffeine Free, Sugar Free Coke available on the island especially for Steve.
16. Black pudding v blood sausage, which was your favourite Steve?
17. Scottish spice – SALT!! Steve, you'll know what we mean.
18. The broch
19. Diced with death at a windy cliff edge at the lighthouse, Port of Ness.
20. Had a lovely Scottish summer picnic with hoods and raincoats to prove it, rocks to hold down picnic blanket lest wind should carry everything away.
21. Steve gives us photography lessons at St Clements church, Rodel.
22. Peter transforms himself to half sheep, half?
23. All night Monopoly in front of the open fire

30.A fantastic introduction to Baseball with a marathon game between the White Sox & the Red Sox
31. Trips on the L

35. Karaoke in Steve and Maria's apartment, I Will Surrrrrrrrrrrrrrvive was given a new lease of life thanks to Grounds Keeper Willie
36. The vast variety of different food and Steve knew every restaurant and exactly what he would order. No need for any menu when you're with Steve
37. Steve arranging our hotel and even going to the actual hotel to look at the room, time how long it would take to get to the L and how accessible was it to his apartment. We are sure he would have produced some sort of list with ratings here!!

38. The Field Museum was a favourite spot for Iona & Aedan. Mhairi & Iona break the all American unwritten rules for queuing at the loos there too!
39. Our first taste of cornbread (unexpected but great taste!), fried green tomatoes, corn dogs, gumbo, etc. The list is endless
39.1 Steve, Maria and Emillio entertained Iona & Aedan while Mhairi & Peter went to a recommended performance of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind
This was a fantastic trip with great friends and we will be back again soon, so start preparing the next list for us Steve.
